HISTORY OF DENTAL IMPLANTS

The history of dental implants dates back several thousand years. In ancient times, people used shells, bones, and other materials to replace missing teeth. 

2500 B.C. EGYPTIANS use gold wire for tooth stabilization.

500 B.C. ETRUSCANS replace teeth with oxen bones.

500 B.C. PHOENICIANS Gold wires for splinting of periodontally compromised teeth.

600 A.C. MAYANS inserted seashells as implants to replace missing mandibular teeth

1700 J.HUNTER  transplanted teeth from one human to another .

1809 J.MAGGIOLO performed first implant placement into a fresh extraction socket by using a gold tube.

1913 J.GREENFIELD placed gold cylinders to function as artificial roots.

1930 A.&M. Strock used orthopedic screw fixtures made of vitallium placed in both human and dogs to restore missing teeth. 

1938 P.B. ADAMS Cylindrical endosseous implant

1940 M. FORMIGGINI & F. ZEPPONI developed post-type endosseous implant

1940 G.DAHI  developed subperiosteal implant

1952  P.I. BRANEMARK Osseointegration

1960 R. CHERCHEVE developed double helical spiral implant made of CoCr.

1965 P.I.BRANEMARK First patient treated with Ti implant a full mouth rehabilitation.

1968 L. LINKOW developed Blade implant to treat partial and total edentulism

1983 CAD/CAM solutions for prosthodontic restorations development of the procera method for high precision industrial manufacturingof dental crowns and itroduction of the first ceramic CAD/CAM coping.

1998 ALL ON 4 treatment concept uses a reduce number of implants for full arch treatments with high succes rates.

2005 NOBEL GUIDE/ NOBEL CLINICIAN . Intorduceas the first comprehensive cencepts for 3D treatment planing and guided surgery.
